【和ものの月曜日】スモール・サークル・オブ・フレンズ
福岡で結成されたスモサは、ムトウサツキとアズマリキによるヒップホップ・ユニットです。相当昔ですが「Platform5」('97)に入った”Love Potion No5”という曲が好きで良く車で聞いてました。その後曲名失念して、つべで探すの一苦労でしたが、見つけました。ユニット名の由来はロジャー・ニコルスでしょうが、そういう事とカンケーなくいいメロディー。二人のvoが重なるところ気持ちいいです。

■God Must Be A Boogie Man / Joni Mitchell（’79）
ジョニ・ミッチェルのジャズへの傾倒がピークに達したのは「Mingus」あたりでしょうか。チャールズ・ミンガス作品を多く取り上げたこのアルバムは全曲カヴァーではなくジョニのオリジナルもあります。”God Must Be A Boogie Man”もそうで、縦横無尽に動くbass（ラリー・クラインでしょうかこのライヴでは）が印象的。動画は83年のロンドンでのライヴから。
【先週の読書】
昨日患者さんで、Y兼さんという方がいらっしゃって、急にこの本を思い出し6年ぶりに読みました(明るいうちに)。理詰めで解決されない話を調査に次ぐ調査で、怪異の謎を解こうとする話。日本的な「穢れ」の発想をちゃんと解説してますし、これが伝染するという発想も怖かった。いろいろ話がつながってゆくさまは映画の「オーメン」を思い出します。やっぱり日本語で書かれた一番怖い話というのは今のところかわりないですね。この文庫の表紙はちょっとちがうぞ～(2012)

名古屋にディスクユニオンが秋にできるというニュースをお友だちに教えてもらいました。僕にとってユニオンと言えばお茶の水橋口を出て交差点を渡ったところにあった4階建てのビル。4階まで全部レコ屋というのは初めてで最初に訪れた81年にはびっくり(ランディ・マイズナー@青年館＆ジョー・ウォルシュ＠武道館のために上京）でした。その時買ったのはバーニー・レドン＝マイケル・ジョージアデス・バンドと全部イーグルス絡みなのが笑えますが、次の日友人に連れられて行った新宿のユニオン(当時の場所は覚えてません)で、「セクション登場」を買ったのも覚えてます(これは少し難しかったwww）。歌ものじゃないですもん。ただこのカッコよさに気づくのはだいぶたってからでした。
【火曜は聞き比べ】If You Wanna Be Happy？
オリジナルはジミー・ソウルの63年の#1ヒットで、大好きな映画｢恋する人魚たち」にもラストで効果的に使われていました。僕が最初期聞いたのはストーンズのビル・ワイマンが「Stone Alone」でカヴァーしたヴァージョン。なんでワイマンのソロを買ったのは今となっては覚えてないんですが、結構楽しい曲だなあと思ったのを記憶しています。
まずワイマンのヴァージョン。
そしてジミー・ソウルのオリジナル。
そしてフリートウッド・マックのルーツともいえるピーター・Bズ（ルーナーズ）。ミック・フリートウッドとピーター・グリーンが後にキャメルのピーター・バーデンスらと組んでたR&Bバンドで66年のシングルがこの曲のカヴァー。バーデンスのユーモラスなオルガンが入ったインストです。これ大好き。

■Astral Man / Nektar（’75）
ハンブルグで結成されたイギリス人によるネクターは、活動の根拠はドイツです。時代がプログレとハードロックに冷たい時期でも、ドイツ（と日本）はこのジャンルに大いに愛情を注いできました。初期はプログレ的なイメージが強いですが、70's半ばにはメロディアスな印象もあります。"Astral Man"('75)は#91まで上がった唯一のアメリカでのヒット。そういえばこれが入った「Down To Earth」は割に米盤見かけたのはそういうわけだったのか。もっとなんていうかプログレ・プログレしたものを想像してましたので意外と聞きやすい。そういえば「Remember Future」('74)はアメリカで#19まで上がったヒットとなりました（片面1曲ずつの大作がですよ！）。余談ですが不二家のネクターって見かけなくなりましたね。

■Spirit Of A Dead Man / Bonaroo('75)
マイケル・ホザック（ドゥービー、ブラザーズ）、ボビー・ウィンクルマン（スティーヴ・ミラー・バンド）、ジェリー・ウィームス（エドガー・ウィンター・グループ）らの元メンバーによる、ボナルーもまたスーパー・グループの一つかもしれません。味気ないジャケですし、ややポップス寄りではありますが、西海岸産の大好きな1枚。ただアメリカン・フライヤーやSHFバンドの様な作られ感もありますが、どの曲をだれが歌ってるという事も、実はわかりにくいのですけど。special thanksとしてロニー・モントローズやパット・シモンズの名もあります。prodのマーティ・コーンはドゥービーのマネージャーのブルース・コーンと関係あるのかな？この”Spirit Of A Dead Man”は、ウィンクルマン作品。

■Dead Of Night / Ian Gillan ('79)
イアン・ギランのソロ名義となった「Gillan」は日本盤がオリジナルで、東芝のEast Worldレーベルからリリース。IGBを解散し、コリン・タウンズ(kb)を連れ、ジーブラのスティーヴ・バード(g)、ジョン・マッコイ(b)、リーアム・ノッキー(ds)とセッション・マンで固めた手堅い音。再びハードロックの世界に帰っては来ていますが、意外とポップな曲もあって日本では好評に受け入れられました。”Dead Of Night”もキャッチーなメロディーのハードロック。このあとバーニー・トーメ、ミック・アンダーウッドとメンツが固まってNWOHMのブームに乗って再浮上となります。
