【水曜西海岸@75】スティヴン・スティルス
新たにColumbiaと契約したスティヴン・スティルスは傑作「Stills」を75年にリリース。昔のベーシック音源にダビングするなど過去の遺産を使用した寄せ集め（もちろん新録も多数あり）なアルバムですが、多方面からの豪華ゲスト参加もデビュー作を思わせます。新たな相棒ドニー・デイカス(g)を従えた曲のいくつかは非常に優れたものですが、いつも言ってますけど短い曲が多く残念。その中でもベティ・ライトがコーラスで加わったデイカスとの共作の”Cold Cold World”とこの”Myth Of Sisyphus”が4分台で満足できます。クラウディア・レネアのゴスペルっぽいコーラスが印象的なナンバー。dsはジェームズ・ギャングのジム・フォックスが叩きますが、これはちょうどJGの「Miami」でマクリテリア・スタジオ録音で一緒だったんでしょうね。

■Take A Look Over My Shoulder / Nick Garvey('82)
モーターズのニック・ガーヴェイのソロがあることも知りませんでした。ブラム・チャイコフスキーばかりが目立つ感じだったモーターズですけど、後期ダックス・デラックスでえらくポップな曲を書いてたアンディ・マクマスターやガーヴェイの存在があってこそのパワーポップ。しかしこの”Take A Look Over My Shoulder”ポップでなかなかよろしい。「Blue Skies」から。
【木曜は久々に聞く名盤】Sweet Swingin’ / 佐藤奈々子('77)
佐藤奈々子のセカンドで当時ジャケ見ながらモヤモヤしてましたが、中3小僧にはちょっと手に負えないおしゃれさがありました。デビュー前の佐野元春とのコラボは今となっては知られた話です。prodはジャズgtrの横内章次に代わっていてジャジーなムードの曲はすごく大人っぽい。”週末のハイウェイ”、ボサノヴァ風の”オリーヴの風”が特に好きです(この良さは今になってわかる)。

「チャーリーズ・エンジェル」人気に乗ってリリースされたシェリル・ラッドのシングルで、当時結構あちこちでかかってた記憶があります。邦題”天使のためいき”。最高位36位でした。

■Love Over And Over Again / Switch('80)
ジャーメイン・ジャクソンのprodでデビューしたオハイオ出身のスウィッチは、80'sに入ってデバージ兄弟が独立したデバージも有名になりました。どこで知ったか忘れましたが「This Is My Dream」('80)から。白人っぽさも感じさせるスウィートソウルでAOR的なムードもあります。

■Jubal Blues Again / Clean Living（’72）
最近始まった小川真一さん主催の「カントリーロックの新しい夜明け」でも紹介しましたクリーン・リヴィングはボストン出身のカントリー・ロック。このジャンルは圧倒的に西海岸が有名ですが東部にもちゃんといるのです。メロディやハーモニーにそこはかとないカントリーっぽさを感じさせます。このパッチワークのジャケットはなかなか印象的です。
