山下達郎は、シュガー・ベイブ時代もステージでカヴァーしてたものでタツロー・シングス・シュガー・ベイブのライヴでやって驚きでした(ラジオで聞いた)。このヴァージョンは2010年のフェス出演時のものらしいです。オリジナルはもちろん鈴木茂の「Band Wagon」に入ってたものです。

■I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night/ Electric Prunes（’66）
動くエレクトリック・プルーンズ初めて見ました（口パクですが）が、voがオートハープ抱えて歌うのが時代だあ。ファズg、リヴァーヴ、テープ逆回転など当時の技術を使ってのサイケ手法がガレージ・パンクの古典ともいえるこの曲を構成しています。かの有名なオムニバス「Nuggets！」にも収録されております。
【水曜鍵盤曲】Root Beer Rag / Billy Joel ('75)
ビリー・ジョエルの高速pianoが聞けるインストの”Root Beer Rag”は昔はステージのハイライトの一つでした。思わず体が動き出す楽し気なナンバー。アルバムでは「Street Life Serenade」('75)と売れなかった時代にリリースされてます。ちなみ「はらかなこ」さんの一人でやった動画も結構すごい。
organとpianoをそれぞれ専門にしたkb奏者をメンバーに持ったバンドは、音楽性はともかくザ・バンド的と言われる(スプーキー・トゥースやプロコル・ハルムも)のはある意味ザ・バンドの呪縛的なものではないかなあとも感じます。プロコル・ハルムのファーストではゲイリー・ブルッカー(p)とマシュー・フィッシャー(org)がおり、クラシカルなイメージの”青い影”が限りなく有名ですけど、このpとorgのアンサンブルにヘヴィーなg（ロビン・トロワー)が切り込んでくる”Repent Walpurgis ”は名曲だと思います。ワルプルギスで思い出すのは、ワルプルギスナハト（ワルプルギスの夜)と呼ばれる、ドイツや北欧で4月末から5月頭にかけて行われるキリスト教伝来以前の異教時代の慣習です。ゲーテの「ファウスト」で引用された、悪魔(魔女)たちが4月末の夜にドイツのブロッケン山で酒宴を行う

■Too Much To Young / The Specials('80)
市松模様が街にあふれた２Toneレーベルのスカブームがホントすごかったのですが、ひと夏の思い出のようにすーっと波は引いてしまいました。スペシャルズ、マッドネス、セレクターの御三家はどれも当時ラジオからよく流れてました。”Too Much To Young”はスペシャルズのデビュー作に入ってましたが、ライヴの4曲入りEPを友人が持ってて借りた記憶あります。底抜けに楽しい踊れる曲です。

■Too Much Monkey Business / Bulldog（’72）
言うまでもなくチャック・ベリーの有名曲ですが、メンバー紹介（Eric Slowhand Claptonと紹介）の後始まるヤードバーズの「Five Live Yardbirds」がこの曲の初体験でした。ここではブルドッグのカヴァーで。ラスカルズを辞めたディノ・ダネリ(ds)とジーン・コーニッシュ(g)が組んだNYのハードロックです。

■Rubber Monkey / Santabarbara Machine Head('67)
パープルのジョン・ロード(kb)が、アートウッズの次に参加したユニットで、「Blues Anytime」というオムニバスに残した3曲しかありません。dsがトゥインク（トゥモロウ）、gがロン・ウッド（フェイシズ）、bがキム・ガードナー（アシュトン・ガードナー＆ダイク）という後の有名人の若かりし頃。基本線はこうしたR&Bでもっと聞きたかったなあ。
