ShelterからMCA傘下のBackstreetに移籍してからトム・ペティは弾けた感じします。サードの「Damn The Toepedoes」から最初のシングル”Don't Do Me Like That”は、実はマッドクラッチ時代に書かれたというナンバー。#10まで上がるヒットとなりました。当時吉田拓郎っぽいなあと思ったのでしたが今聞くと浜田省吾的(逆ですが)。
 
 
【月曜は始めの一歩】Space Child / Flaming Youth('69)
ジェネシス以前のフィル・コリンズがいたフレーミング・ユースはロックというよりはハーモニーを生かしたポップ・グループでした。大半の曲はハードやデイヴ・ディー・グループに提供していたハワード＝ブレイクリーが書いてました。この”Space Child”はコリンズが歌います。珍しいオランダのTVから。

ジョー・コッカーのデビューは”With A Little Help”ではなくそれ以前にDeccaからのビートルズのカヴァーの”I'll Cry Instead”です。あっという間に終わってしまい曲をなぞった感じですが声が若い！

フランキー・ヴァリのフォー・シーズンズの変名、ワンダー・フー？（誰って思う？）っててっきりこのディランのカヴァーだけかと思ってたら何枚かシングル出てたんですね。この辺の経緯はよくわからないのですが、変名で出して全然バレてなかったのか？バレバレだったのか？どうなんでしょう。しかしこのカヴァーは気持ちいい。

ジム・キャパルディのファーストソロに入ったマイナー調のナンバー。ロンドンとマッスル・ショールズ録音でこのセッションをきっかけにマッスル・ショールズの有名なスタジオ職人だったデイヴィッド・フッドとロジャー・ホーキンスがトラフィックに加わることになりました。デイヴ・メイスンが熱っぽいソロを聞かせます。
